A PROMISE: We promised mum to advocate for people living with dementia and fundraise for a cure - especially for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This 16 year Alzheimer's journey will not be in vain. We have learned so much about the disease and the aged care system, and will use this knowledge to effectively help others. That is our promise.
Mum sadly passed away on Sunday 20 May 2018, aged 81. She was very brave, strong and tenacious whilst living with the heartache, fear, confusion, anxiety, helplessness and difficulty communicating that Alzheimer's brings, and being totally dependent on her carers. She lived 8 years, 3 months and 10 days in her nursing home and for six of those years she could not speak or walk. Dementia took our mum away long before her death.
My most precious moments are actually snippets, moments in time when mum would recognise me as her daughter and smile.
Incredible, special, loving split seconds of time that I will cherish. Miss you mum, love you always.
In her honour and for my dad who had Parkinson's (now a disease under the dementia umbrella) we set up this Award to ensure every dollar raised goes directly to specific researchers to help them find the cure.

March 2019 Starry Night Painting Fundraiser in Canberra
Artistic talent exploded from everyone painting their very own 'Starry Night Sunflowers'. Was a great night and we raised
$942.00. The Canberra Raiders Club at Holt looked after us very well too, and a thank you to Kaisercraft in Fyshwick who donated a generous lucky door prize. We'll definitely do another painting workshop like this.

November 2017 Fashion Fundraiser in Canberra
With the encouragement of great friends, equally passionate about raising money to cure dementia, we held a Fashion
Parade and Auction. We received many wonderful donations of quality clothing - the stuff that was too good for the clothing bins. Some items were modelled and auctioned and many others sold at bargain prices.
Unsold items were donated to Vinnies, who kindly loaned four of their racks for the night. It was a huge team effort and we are grateful for all the wonderful people who made it happen.
